01 The Challenge

The Golden Triangle region of Mississippi suffers the same community problems today as most metropolitan areas. Rising violent crime, drug abuse and drug trafficking, alcoholism, increasing homeless population, fatherless homes, education and vocational training deficiency, hunger, sex trafficking, and gang violence plague our inner city. A sense of hopelessness prevails in the hearts of our inner city youth. Juvenile Detention Center leadership reports an alarming high recidivism rate of young delinquent offenders that return to the same seemingly hopeless environment of one, or often, no parent homes or to the gangs or pimps that have become their “family.” These symptoms are often multigenerational in depth. This is a community wound that demands a comprehensive approach to change the very heart of our suffering neighborhoods.
